DIY Detox – Cut down on coffee today

You’ll be surprised at the benefits a caffeine-free lifestyle can bring. (We were!)

If you’re one of those people who can’t start the day without a large double latte then giving up coffee can seem like a daunting and downright impossible task. Caffeine intake can affect people’s sleep, general wellbeing, blood pressure levels.

Some people try to limit their caffeine intake as a part of a healthy lifestyle.

Here’s how to do it.

Cut down by one coffee a day.

As with any detox you can expect headaches, fatigue and crankiness in the first few days. Cutting down gradually will decrease the severity of detox symptoms. (If you only have one coffee per day you can start right away)

Order a chai latte or hot chocolate instead.

We know there’s nothing quite like the morning ritual of a hot takeaway latte on your way to work, so order a caffeine free alternative instead.

Drink green tea.

While it’s still caffeinated it’s also packed with antioxidants, increases metabolism - What’s not to love!

Try hot water with a slice of lemon.

Swap coffee breath and stained teeth for a healthy smile. Some herbal teas like white tea, contain antioxidants.

Miso soup.

Miso soup has an alkalizing effect on the body and helps maintain nutritional balance. Keep a few sachets handy for when coffee cravings strike.

While detoxing remember to:

Drink Water.

At least 8 glasses per day will help flush out the toxins.

Sleep.

You’ll be tired anyway so listen to your body and get plenty of rest.

If you find you’re having trouble sleeping try Swisse Ultiboost Sleep, a comprehensive formula that assists natural restful sleep & helps relieve nervous tension.

Eat Well.

Fibre helps cleanse your digestive tract so resist the temptation to overload on carbs and go for high-fibre foods like fruits, veggies, legumes and grains instead.

The first few days of any detox will challenge your resolve but stick with it and by the 4th or 5th caffeine-free day you can expect to feel more energetic, more alert and happier.
