Blood Orange

In Europe, citrus fruits, introduced to Italy by the crusaders in the 11th century - were grown widely in the south for medicinal purposes.

Fruit peel of Citrus sinensis contains, for example, citrus bioflavonoids and in some varieties, including blood orange and anthocyanidins.

Functions:
Orange peel has been used for maintenance of appetite. Health Canada monograph on Citrus bioflavonoids, an active component of blood orange, details the use as a source of antioxidants.
